Song Of The Day
The seventh song on BROCKHAMPTON's 2017 album entitled SATURATION III. It's no surprise that BLEACH is one of the band's most popular songs to date. The song has that perfect combination of slow, eerie guitar and sad vocals that make it nice on the ears and perfect for a rainy day. I love this song because of its constant switch ups. Between the scratching record, the rapping in the verses, the singing in the chorus, the talking, and the little kids voice towards the end, there is a constant sense of stimulation. This style of music makes for fun and exciting listening because even if you've heard the song a million times, you know that there will be constant variation when you listen. That's also something BROCKHAMPTON carries throughout their music and what makes them stand out in the alternative R&B and hip-hop realm of music. If you like this kind of sound, you should definitely listen to their most recent release where they remixed SUGAR with my girl Dua Lipa (absolutely ecstatic that they decided to collaborate) and the rest of their albums because these guys do not disappoint.

If you enjoy BLEACH you will definitely enjoy Tyler, The Creator's critically acclaimed 2019 album IGOR. It has a very similar vibe in terms of its sound, vocals, and overall feel. Tyler expresses lost love but in a way that isn't completely devastating. He creates easy listening, just like BROCKHAMPTON, through his soft beats and easy tempo's. Not to mention the album won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. I can't recommend it enough.

The much-anticipated second album from Mt. Joy called Rearrange Us will be available this summer! As of April 20th, the band has released seven songs from the new album with the song Strangers already acquiring close to 5 million streams on Spotify. The pre-released songs do not stray far from the kind of indie-rock sound that this band is known for. In fact, it fits right in to the folky singing, the electric guitar solos, the ever-present piano chords, the harmonizing background vocals, and the subtle tambourine that their fans have grown to know and love. The new album is shaping up to be yet another tracklist about growing up, life, and all the things we shouldn't miss out on along the way. From lyrics like, "I am over you" in Strangers to, "you're the only one I ever belonged to" in Let Loose, Mt. Joy explores the indecision and uncertainty of young love. Aspects of growing up, such as young love, run through this new album in songs like Rearrange Us with the lyrics, "it seems like a short life, but it feels like a long time when I remember everything". Mt. Joy encourages its listeners to make memories, fill your life with those who make life feel short, and that make life worth living. So far the band has released 8 songs from the new album and they are fantastic. If you like bands such as Hippo Campus, Rayland Baxter, Yoke Lore, and Houndmouth you will enjoy this new album.

Wild rivers - Setting moods and taking names
The Toronto-based band Wild Rivers just came out with a new EP called Songs To Break Up To and let me tell you... that is exactly what it's for. The 6 songs on the new EP are heartbreakingly gripping as they recount lost love, anger, grief, sadness, giving up, and ultimately, what it feels like to lose someone who was once so close. Lyrics such as, "Guess we got caught up in telling a lie now you're leaving me lonely" and "Now we talk like we never did, I'd rather not it just feels like it's scripted" recount the moments of a relationship that has ended and the sadness in that realization. A lot of the EP reminisces on past experiences and the significance of those moments long after a relationship has ended, "I see your ghost on a train downtown", "Some girls asking about that tattoo, still think I'm gonna keep it". I think these lyrics are definitely something that anyone who has been in a relationship can relate to and I think that Wild Rivers does a good job of making these songs universal. As much as their lyrics are versatile, so is their sound. Although the lyrics are deeply sad, the softness of Devan and Khalid's harmonies and the soothing, slow guitar are very peaceful. I play this EP when I want to slow my brain down, when I want to feel calm, I even play it at the dinner table! The EP is clearly very adaptable, which makes it a MUST listen-to album this summer, or whenever you're going through a rough breakup.
